View of the Grade II* listed entry 1113131 former headquarters of the London, Edinburgh and Glasgow Assurance Company at 30 Euston Square, formerly 1 to 9 Melton Street, in the former Metropolitan Borough of St Pancras, looking west through the trees of Euston Square Gardens. The c1932 extension at 194 to 198 Euston Road, seen to the left with a mansard tiled roof. The building was owned by the government from 1948 and subsequently served a number of purposes, including being a local office of the Department of Health and Social Security until the 1990s, and is currently the headquarters of the Royal College of General Practitioners as well as an events venue. The adjacent concrete-framed Walkden House, can be seen on the far side of Euston Square Gardens, to the right of bus request stop 'G' in the foreground, partly hidden behind an advertising hoarding. Vehicles seen crossing the junction towards Gordon Street include an Austin FX4 taxi, a Hillman Imp, and a Mini estate, next to signs for Euston mainline rail station, and Euston Square Underground station.
