Description
A view of the front elevations of a terrace of Georgian houses at 39-62 Doughty Street, Holborn, from the junction with Guilford Street. Visible at the left of the picture are the front elevation of number 7 Guilford Street and the side and front elevations of 39 Doughty Street. To its right are the front elevations of numbers 40 and onwards. The houses are of five storeys including a basement and attic storey. Black and white 'keep left' bollards create a pedestrian refuge in the middle of Doughty Street at the junction. A dark telecommunications cabinet stands on the pavement at the corner. A number of cars are parked in the street including, on the right, a Ford Popular 103E. Built in 1792-1800, numbers 3 to 7 Guilford Street and their railings were Grade II listed in 1974, listing number 1245854. Completed by 1820, numbers 39-47 and 49-62 and their railings were Grade II listed in 1974, listing number 1356734. Built in 1805-7, number 48 Doughty Street, the home of Charles Dickens, was Grade I listed in 1954, listing number 1356735. The writer lived there from 1835 to 1837.
