Interior of a house in Burton Street
Description
View of a dilapitated rear room on the ground floor of 12 Burton Street, Bloomsbury. The floor is lined with detritus including crumbled plaster, corrugated iron, a can and bags with construction material. There are two doors in view, one had the lock partially removed and kept open with a piece of furniture. The wallpaper is intact, although the ceiling is peeling. Burton Street was named after the architect James Burton, who constructed the street in 1809-20. This house is part of a terrace that was constructed in 1809-13 and is Grade II listed, listing number 1272397. Notable nineteenth-century residents included the Reverend Archibald Barclay or Berkeley, who moved to this location from 54 Burton Street in 1845, and resided until 1852.
