Description
View from the junction with St Chad's Street of the three-storey Violet Hotel and houses at 54-58 Birkenhead Street, St Pancras. The houses are fronted with railings and the ground-floor doors and windows are rounded. Iron balconets line the windows on the first floor. Violet Hotel at 54-55 Birkenhead Street includes dormer windows on the roof, fronted with safety railings. The hotel has separate entrances on St Chad's Street and Birkenhead Street. Lingfield Hotel occupies number 56 and has a channelled stucco ground floor. Peter Boenler House occupies number 58. Further on is the King's Cross Methodist Church, a two-storey brick building with a colonnaded entrance toped with an arched window. Four sedans are parked on Birkenhead Street. Previously known as Liverpool Street until the twentieth century, the first houses on the street appeared in 1825. The terrace in the view was constructed by W. Forrester Bray between 1834 and 1849 with late twentieth-century restorations. It is now Grade II listed, listing number 1244501.
