Description
Detail of a sculptured plasterwork in the shape of a head, facing away from the door in the entrance hall of 45 Burton Street, Bloomsbury. The head is that of a woman, whose clothes and hair are of leaves and fruit. Above her forehead is a crescent, positioned beneath the edge of a semi-oval mantls. On this sits, and overreaches, the rectangular base of the archway. This house was constructed between 1811 and 1813 and is Grade II listed, listing number 1272402. Notable nineteenth-century residents include the founder of London Univeristy, Thomas Wilson; the novelist, Leitch Ritchie; and the archaeologist and Public Records Office worker, Joseph Burtt.
