Corner of Salisbury Street and Nightingale Street
Description
Corner of Salisbury Street and Nightingale Street. All of the visible buildings are in disrepair and are boarded up. A group of boys and girls are stood in front of the corner property, a young man is sat on the kerb with two dogs and group of men are crowded together on the right-hand side. On the left a woman in a hat is stood with two girls either side and is facing the camera. There appears to be a broken-down cart in the background. The photo has been taken from the entrance of what was Portman Market and is now a housing estate accessed via Penfold Street. Nightingale Street was demolished and the Nightingale Street Buildings were erected on the site in 1904 by Henry William Berkeley, the Viscount Portman.
