Description
View of North Gate, a luxury apartment block in Prince Albert Road, St John's Wood. The block has about six storeys and extends for more than 200 metres between the junctions with St John's Wood High Street, seen on the left of the image, and Culworth Street, housing more than 100 apartments. In the image, the block is fully scaffolded. During World War II, North Gate and other blocks in Prince Albert Road were requisitioned by the government and North Gate housed American troops guarding the US ambassador in Winfield House in Regents Park. Dating from the early-twentieth century and designed by Edward Prioleau Warren (1856–1937), the block still exists. A few pedestrians can be seen.
