Houses in St Ann's Terrace
Description
Front elevations of 9-25 St Ann's Terrace, Westminster. This post-World War II view shows disrepair and possible fire or bomb damage at number 9, which is one of a row of stuccoed houses built c1840. Each two windows wide with three storeys and basement, and now Grade II listed, listing number 1235457. Numbers 11-25 form an incomplete terrace of houses built c1840, now Grade II listed, listing number 1235525. Each house is three storeys, two windows wide, with basement and recessed attic. Numbers 11-15 form a centrepiece with Corinthian columns and broad pediment. Decorative cast-iron ground-floor balconies are supported on cast-iron Greek key patterned trellis standards. At numbers 17-21, there is a tented canopy to the cast-iron first-floor balcony. Number 23 is set forward with ground fluted order of Corinthian columns. In this view, the pediment at numbers 11-15 has a damaged decorative frieze with traces of the words 'York Terrace' which has since been plastered over. A woman is looking out of a third-storey window at number 11. A Victorian streetlamp is in the street outside.
