Description
Front elevations of 8-11 Robert Adam Street, Westminster. Adam Street was laid out in the late 1770s as part of the Portman Estate. It was renamed Robert Adam Street in 1938 after Robert Adam (1728-92), the Scottish neoclassical architect who designed nearby Home House in Portman Square (but was not the architect of the street). The terrace numbered 7-11 is Grade II listed, listing number 1360823. Featuring brick fronts, rendered ground floors; York stone cills and coping, and slate roofs, numbers 8-9 are each three windows wide and with central doors. Numbers 10-11 each have two bays with doors to left and front areas have cast-iron railings. Number 8 has cast-iron balconies to first-floor windows. Number 9 has a doorway with a Queen Anne Revival door hood with carved wooden brackets. Number 10 has an arched door surround with rusticated quoins. Number 11 has arched door surround. At right, a Victorian street gas lamp. There is a parking meter in front of number 11. Two cars are parked; one car registration YXE 100.
