Interior of a house in Portman Square
Description
Ground-floor front room, 21 Portman Square, Marylebone. This view shows a panelled ceiling with elaborate decoration. The Grade I listed house (listing number 1227092) was built from c1772 to designs of James Adam for art connoisseur William Locke (1732-1810). The house was altered in 1866, and the principal entrance moved to Gloucester Place. Further alterations were made to the interior in 1972 for the RIBA Drawings Collection, and again from 2004 when it became part of Home House (19-21 Portman Square), an hotel and private members' club.
