View of the entrance hall of the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants at 63 Portland Place, Marylebone. A carpeted staircase, with ornate acanthus-pattern wrought-iron balustrading, is visible through an arched opening, and climbs to a first-floor landing and glazed doors opening to a room at the rear. The hall has a plain carpet over black and white diamond-pattern tiled flooring, with wall panelling, painted white below the picture rail, and a stepped plaster cornice with modillions. Ground-floor rooms at the rear are visible beyond the stair, seen undergoing redecoration with dust sheets covering the floor, and a step ladder. The hall is lit by a pendant light fitting and features a carved oak Monk's bench seat featuring Egyptian-stylised lion arms, a peg letter board mounted on an easel, displaying the agenda in each of the east and west council rooms, a wooden floor-mounted 'enquiries' sign, and a pot plant on a shelf in a niche. The house is Grade II* listed, listing number 1227079, and was the former home of writer, Frances Hodgson Burnett (1849 to 1924), and is currently the premises of an International school.
