View of a staircase looking down from a half landing, towards a pair of pattern-glazed doors of a first-floor room at the rear of 63 Portland Place, Marylebone. The doors are built into an arched opening, with similarly glazed panels either side and above, along with a shaded lamp. The opening is flanked by pilasters decorated with neoclassical motifs in relief. The staircase is carpeted, retained with stair rods, has a white acanthus-patterned, wrought-iron balustrade, a timber handrail, and wainscoting, again painted white. The house is Grade II* listed, listing number 1227079, and was the former home of writer, Frances Hodgson Burnett (1849 to 1924), and is seen occupied by the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants (formerly, the Institute of Cost and Works Accountants until 1973, renamed the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants in 1986), and is currently the premises of an International school.
