View of half of the library ceiling at 61 New Cavendish Street, Marylebone. Showing part of the ceiling cornice, its plasterwork, main painted panel, smaller painted panels and oval frieze. In the central panel a mythological scene shows a charioteer, other figures and horses in the clouds. One putti hands a laurel wreath to the charioteer. The frieze includes figures, urns, trees and animals against a darker colour background. Two painted oval panels, each depicting a female figure, are shown in the corners of the ceiling. The ceiling creates the impression of a convex contour. Built in 1775, the townhouse was originally planned by Robert and James Adams, and built by John Johnson, with John Soane contributing to the design of bookcases and ceiling cornices. It is Grade II listed, listing number 1266745.
