Description
A view of front elevation of the five-storey building with basement of 10-9 Margaret Street, Fitzrovia. This structure forms part of 9-12 Audley House, built in 1907 by J.W. Simpson and M. Ayrton. The building is constructed in a free Tudor style with red brick and stone dressings. It is comprised of large, symmetrical bachelor flats. It displays distinctive stone mullions in the casement windows beneath gables and turrets. Shops or business premises are seen on the ground floor with railings out front. A St Quintin to let sign and another for Smith Melzack are fixed to a first floor balcony. This building is Grade II listed, number: 1239599. The entrance of 9A, London House, is shown. This area consists of hall leading to a square building within an enclosed open space behind Audley House. Further to the right, the facade of number 8 is visible as is part of All Saint’s Margaret Street. This church is Grade I listed, number: 1239569. Vans are parked along the street outside. To the right of the image a woman and two children walk away from the photographer. Margaret Street is named after Margaret Bentinck, Duchess of Portland, and daughter of local landowner Edward Harley, 2nd Earl of Oxford and Earl Mortimer.
