Description
View of front elevations of Grade I listed terraced houses at 1-20 Hanover Terrace, Marylebone. Numbers 1-20 Hanover Terrace form a unified block built by J.M Aitkens in 1822-23 from a design by John Nash as part of the Regent's Park Crown Estate development. The buildings have stucco façades and are set back behind a garden with drive, with central and terminal Roman Doric porticoed pavilions and ground floor loggia. They face Regent’s Park. Lamp post and parked cars are visible. Notable residents include composer Ralph Vaughan Williams who spent the last five years of his life at number 10 (1953-58). The architect Anthony Salvin (1799-1881) lived at number 11, and H.G. Wells, known as the ‘Father of Science Fiction’, lived at number 13 from 1933 up until his death in 1946. Listing number 1279085.
