Description
Detail of the doorway of 23 Great Cumberland Place, Marylebone. The terraced town house was built c1789-90 as part of the Portman Estate development. It was originally intended as a complete circus or double crescent, but only the eastern half (Numbers 24- 42) was built according to plan. There are cast-iron railings at the front of the property with wrought-iron lamp brackets and link extinguishers. This terraced house no longer exists and was damaged during World War II, but the rest of the terrace 29-35a is Grade II listed, order number: 1213434
