Description
Front elevations of terraced houses at 7-19 Saxon Road, Bow. On the left, next to a heavily pollarded tree and an entrance into a yard, number 7 is a three-storey plus basement building with a bracketed cornice and a mansard roof that houses at least two businesses. One is a clothes manufacturer operated by C. Reeves, established in 1838, with a painted sign advertising 'Ladies & Girls Coats & Dresses' and a sign by the entrance for 'vacancies'. Numbers 9-17 are two-storey plus basement residential houses and number 19 is a larger, two-storey plus basement building with a flag pole attached to the front. Further down the street, at number 21 with an oil tanker parked outside, is a tyre repair and replacement firm operated by W. Briggs with a painted sign advertising 'National Tyre Service'. Parked in the street are a Renault Caravelle (registration 9285 KO), an Austin Cambridge and two Bedford CA vans. All of these buildings were demolished to make way for the Rosebank Gardens estate built in the 1970s.
