Description
View of front elevations of Victorian two-storey terraced houses at 46-78 Wyke Road, Hackney Wick, looking towards Roach Road. Various vehicles in the street include a Bryant and May Ltd delivery van with 'Bryant and May Ltd Swan Vestas The Smokers Match' written on the double back doors. A woman is standing at the front door to number 52 and a woman wearing a head scarf is chatting to someone outside number 47. A pram is outside number 74, telephone wire poles and iron boot scrapers. Vacant site at number 48 is fenced with corrugated iron sheeting. This and other houses further along the street were destroyed by bombs during World War II. A factory is on the far left of the photograph built where bombed houses once stood. The buildings were later demolished and replaced by industrial buildings in the 1950s-1970s. In 2017 these buildings werein turn replaced by four to six-storey apartment buildings.
