Title
Langdon House building site in Tetley Street and Ida Street
Description
View of the building site where Langdon House, a seven-storey block of flats on Langdon Park Estate, was to be built.

The land was once part of Tetley Street, Poplar, which ran across the middle of the site, and Ida Street which runs down the side. On the corner is the two-storey early nineteenth-century corner shop at 53 Ida Street, with an advertisement for Lyons Tea.

Numbers 54-63 are terraced houses, with a partly derelict and demolished building with ground-floor shop front at number 65. The remains of fireplaces where the floors once existed are visible on the side wall of the neighbouring number 67 on the corner of Willis Street. The three-storey early nineteenth-century building has a ground-floor shop front with a sign for 'Practical Shoe Repairs'.

The shop was once occupied by shoe repairer Albert Benham. Opposite the shop is an vacant site with corrugated iron sheeting fence which once housed the Woolsack pub at 43 Willis Street. A man is on the roof of one of the houses in Ida Street by a tall ladder, two parked cars, street lamp posts, telephone wires poles and wheelbarrows and spades on the building site.

All the buildings were later demolished and replaced by housing in the 1950s-1970s and an apartment building on the site of the first part of Tetley Street on the Langdon Park Estate in 2012. Parts of the original layout of Ida and Willis Streets were kept but all trace of Tetley Street was removed.
