Title
Houses in Tomlins Grove
Description
View of front elevations of four-storey Victorian terraced houses at 1-25 Tomlins Grove, Bow, looking towards Bow Road. Bordering the houses are Grade II listed ornate gateposts and iron railings; listing number 1065832. In 1913 suffragettes marched down Tomlins Grove in a protest procession to number 13, the home of Councillor Le Marquais who had voted to ban the suffragettes' meeting in public halls. They were charged by around 400 police on horseback and beaten by police resulting in serious casulties. Parked cars, shrubs, rubbish bins and a lamp post are visible. The gap next to number 25 on the far left of the photograph was filled with a low rise block of flats in the 1980s.
