Houses in Acacia Road
Description
Front elevation of 36-37 Acacia Road, St John's Wood, on the corner of Woronzow Road. Named after Count Simon Woronzow, Russian Ambassador to the United Kingdom from 1784–1806. He lived in St John's Wood and on his death in 1832, he left a bequest for the poor of the parish. Acacia Road runs north east from Finchley Road to Avenue Road. Laid out in the early-nineteenth century on land owned by the Duke of Portland and by Henry Samuel Eyre. Built in 1830 as part of the Portland Estate, these are a pair of three-storey semi-detached houses with semi-basements. Two-storey recessed entrance bays, ground-floor windows with panelled pilasters, scrolled friezes, triangular pediments and cast-iron geometric window guards. Rusticated quoins and a Greek key design frieze above the first-floor windows. They are Grade II listed, listing number 1066513. At number 36 an estate agency sign reads 'Sold By Allsop'.
