Title
Flood damage on Leamouth Peninsula
Description
General view of flood damage to a terrace of thirteen houses on the edge of Bow Creek, looking south, Poplar. The high flood tide has washing away the sea defence wall and parts of the pavement. A workman carries an item while walking along a plank over the damaged sea defence. A dock police constable looks on standing in the opening of the Salter's Buildings passage leading to Orchard Place. Several rowing boats are resting on the mud. The terrace of houses continues to West Street (previously named Boat Street), where there is a street lamp above the entrance and beyond that is a wharf with crane and a lighter [barge]. In the distance is the rear elevations of North Quay Warehouses on the East India Dock Basin. The buildings were eventually demolished the area changed to light industrial use and timber yards before the entire Leamouth Peninsula was redeveloped with residential tower blocks in 2010s.
