Description
High-level view of the south-east corner of Poplar Union workhouse off Poplar High Street, Poplar, looking south-east from an upper floor of the four-storey woman's ward. The building nearest the camera, with two glass skylights, was the two-storey bakehouse with a rectangular chimney and is being demolished. The building behind is also being demolished and the tiles have been removed from the roof exposing the rafters. In the yard directly below are what appear to be benches with cast iron fittings. On the right, beyond the boundary wall are the Harrow Lane railway sidings with box wagons waiting and in the background is the bonded warehouses of East India Docks and cranes. These buildings no longer exist and this is now the location of Poplar Docklands Light Railway (DLR) station.
