Description
Side elevation of 738 Old Ford Road (this section renamed Wick Lane), Poplar, looking north-west at the corner of Clay Hall Road. A two-storey, half stucco brick building with a cornice above the ground floor and along the top of the building. A general store previously/currently occupied by S. Preston according to the painted sign above the window. Shelves in the windows are stacked full of provisions and household goods including tin cans and bottles. Signs for R. White's lemonade, R.White's celebrated Kaola summer drink and R.White's ginger beer are pasted on walls with a large sign for Reckitt's Blue [laundry whitening] above the shop door which is on the corner of the building. Two grilles set into the pavement indicate there is probably a basement. This building no longer exists and the location is currently occupied by an electricity sub station.
