Title
Derelict shops in Chrisp Street
Description
A row of derelict shops awaiting demolition at numbers 62-76 Chrisp Street, Poplar. The corner of Willis Street can be seen on the far right. Nearest to the camera, at number 62, is the former premises of Cee King's shoe shop, a sign advertising 'Metropole Shoes' on the corner fascia. Next door, at numbers 64-66, was a former amusement arcade, while C Kingston at number 68 was a butcher's shop. Maypole Dairy was at number 70; Star Shoe Shop at number 72; and the London Co-Op had a shop at numbers 74-76 at the far end. The properties suffer from extreme blight with crumbling brickwork and masonry, smashed glass and missing window frames. Entrances and display windows have been boarded up with timber planks. A single decorative iron street lamp stands outside Kingston's, the butchers. The buildings no longer exist. They were demolished and the site is now occupied by a mixture of light industrial and commercial development.
