Pearl's costumier shop at 87 Chrisp Street on the corner of Cordelia Street, Poplar. The view looks south along Chrisp Street, with Cordelia Street running off to the right. Peeling, faded painted lettering on the upper wall proclaims Pearl as the 'noted house for', possibly, 'mourning wear'. Below, the shop fascia reads 'Gowns' while 'Pearl' is visible in block capitals on the fascia along the Chrisp Street frontage. The full-height window display shows a range of dresses, including three floral prints and one with large checks. A sign advertises a sale inside. A garment hangs on a hook on the pilaster by the entrance or 'in-go'. The external iron awning arms and rails can also be seen. The shop next door, at number 85, as well as another further down Chrisp Street, are boarded up. A lamp hanging over the pavement pinpoints the location of the Young Prince public house at 77 Chrisp Street on the corner with Southill Street, just visible beyond. In Cordelia Street, to the right of the photograph, a door is set into the brick wall, presumably giving access to the rear of the shop premises, and there are two sash windows on upper floors. The building no longer exists. It was demolished and the site used to widen the junction of Cordelia Street with Chrisp Street.
