A horse-drawn cart for A G Hassell, pea & potato salesman, loaded with sacks (one printed with the name WD Collins) and a wicker basket, outside numbers 91-93 Devons Road, Bromley-by-Bow. On the right is the tobacconist and confectioners, T Damery. Advertisements for Adkin's cigarettes, Nut Brown and R & J Hill's tobaccos are visible. To the left, on the corner with Violet Road, is the grocer Evans & Co. Stacks of tinned food can be seen in the shop window, along with prominent signs for 'grand money savings' on tea. An advertisement for Cadbury's Cocoa is also visible. On the immediate right, a display of fruit can be seen in a shop window. Below, cabbage leaves litter the muddy road. Beyond, down Violet Road, two-storey terraced housing appear to be boarded up. This corner no longer exists. It was demolished and the junction at Devons Road and Violet Road widened.
