House in Westbourne Terrace
A view of the front elevation of a grand Italianate villa at 140 Westbourne Terrace, Paddington. It has two storeys plus attic and basement and is three bays wide to Westbourne Terrace. A glazed canopy connects the front door to the pavement, reached through the doorway depicted with shell pediment. A limited scaffold has been erected on the roof. In the street is a compressor used for pneumatic drills and bearing the name McNicholas. To the left, part of Holy Trinity church can be seen. The road has been partly dug up. Dating from 1843-8 and by George Ledwell-Taylor, 140 Westbourne Terrace was Grade II listed in 1970; listing number 1267518. The church no longer exists and a residential block occupies the site. The church was built 1844–46 to a design by Thomas Cundy but was damaged in World War Two bombing. It closed in 1971 after being declared unsafe and the spire demolished in 1972. The church was demolished in 1984.
