High-level view of Poplar Union workhouse off Poplar High Street, Poplar, looking east. Looking down on the roof of what was the woman's ward, east building where the tiles have been removed exposing the rafters and lath and plaster skeiling. On the left is the remains of the demolished, single-storey boiler house and behind that is the extension to the New City College under construction. Beyond the new building is Simpson's Road and part of Godspeed House and Goodwill House tenement buildings. The overgrown waste ground in the background is the remains of the Harrow Lane railway sidings with nearby railway track and workman's cabin. The building in the foreground no longer exists and is now the location of offices of the Docklands Light Railway (DLR), associated car park and railway sidings.
