Shops at 10-24 Chrisp Street, Poplar, on the east side between Susannah Street and Grundy Street. A man in a cloth cap walks past the empty windows of Bartons (a former bakery). Pigeons roost on the window ledges above. Next door, a site is fenced off by full-size hoardings advertising Sovereign cigarettes, Yellow Pages and Nescafe instant coffee. An Interflora sign is fixed to the upper wall of the next shop, above an awning. The shop blinds are pulled down. The shop beyond that is boarded up: 'Italia' can still be seen on the fascia above the hoarding. On the side gable of this three-storey building, a 'ghost sign' for a pork butcher is visible. On the far left, above a canopy projecting over the pavement, is a sign for Sidney Queen (a clothing shop at number 24 Chrisp Street). These buildings no longer exist; the site is now a six storey housing block.
