Description
Front elevation of 41-48 Gloucester Square, Bayswater. Gloucester Square was the last part of the Bishop of London-owned Hyde Park Estate to be built. Planned by George Gulch, numbers 41-47 (now numbers 44-49), was built by George Ledwell Taylor. With four storeys, basement and an attic storey. Projecting Doric porch with continuous cast-iron balcony to the first floor with casement windows. Numbers 41-43 with cast-iron guards to the first- and second-floor windows. Numbers 41, 44 and 47 with Corinthian pilasters through first to third floor. The terrace is Grade II listed, number 1066756. Number 48 is a large corner property with a full-height bow on the corner of Strathearn Place. Numbers 47 and 48 were demolished in 1958 and on that site is now Chartwell Court (50 Gloucester Square) built in a similar style to the 1840 terrace.
