Description
The War Memorial Clock Tower in South Lambeth Road, looking to Stockwell Terrace and Clapham Road, Lambeth. Commemorating those lost in World War I, it was designed by Frank Twydals Dear and erected in 1922 in Stockwell Gardens. The cylindrical structure next to it was a deep level shelter built in World War II. Trees are set around it behind trellis fencing, and a row of nineteenth-century houses line Stockwell Terrace behind. People sit around the edge of the gardens and a queue has formed at the bus stop. The road is busy with traffic including various cars, a truck and a moped. A number 88 bus to Mitcham is by the memorial with people seated on both decks. An advert for 'Dulux Du-Lite' is on the side of the bus. A man in trilby and long coat clutches something on the opposite side of the street.
