Description
View of a three-storey terrace at 37-61 Hillyard Street, Stockwell. Numbers 49-61 have first-floor casement windows which open on to ornate cast iron balconies. On the far left post-war prefabs can be seen. Originally named Russell Street, after Lord John Russell who was twice prime minister, it was renamed in honour of Anne Hillyard, the widow of a clergyman who financed the building of Stockwell Orphanage in 1867. The terrace was demolished and on the site is Ashley-Cooper House, a care home.
