Description
Lofty rear elevation at 71-73 Brixton Hill with annexe by Brixton Water Lane, Brixton, with bay window features and a grass area with foliage. This site was known as Caversham House and had middle-class residents in the nineteenth century. The Warwick College for Girls with its extensive grounds was formerly at number 71; it offered boarding facilities to children whose parents were abroad. Next door at number 73 Brixton Hill lived the comic variety artist James Holloway (stage name Jimmy Nervo) in the 1930s. Brixton provided good links to the West End for such act,s and there was also The Empress Theatre at Brighton Terrace.
