Looking south on the Brixton Hill Estate, Brixton, with 144 to 156 Brixton Hill in view. The George the Fourth Public House and Hotel with its elegant corner-turret at number 144, is recorded with its first licensee Henry Wright in 1825. Alterations to the building took place in the 1930s and it later became a concert and dance venue: Basement Jaxx held club nights here from 1994 and closed in 2012 to become a Tesco supermarket. A sign for Barclay Perkins brewery is outside. Next door are the Brixton Hill Motor and Engineering Works advertising motor repairs. An enclosed area by the pub has a sign for May and Philpot Architects and Surveyors, and bill posters are beneath. Ghost carts can be seen in the distance and tram lines are visible on the road. A hoarding with more adverts can be seen by the trees including one for Bovril. Lamp posts, a post box and iron railings feature.
