Description
Looking across the river Thames towards the Shell Centre and County Hall on Belvedere Road, South Bank. The Shell Centre is a 25-storey slab building, designed by Sir Howard Robertson and constructed by Sir Robert McAlpine Ltd between 1958 and 1962. The building has been partially developed into the Southbank Place development. The County Hall was designed by the architect Ralph Knott in the Edwardian baroque style; its construction started in 1909. The building was formally opened by King George V on 17 July 1922, and remained the headquarters of the Greater London Council until it was dismantled in 1986. This Grade II* listed building now hosts numerous tourist attractions and hotels.
