View of buildings on Kensington Road, Kensington, looking south down Palace Gate. The De Vere Hotel is on the right with a sign on the wall advertising the Restaurant and Cocktail Bar. On the corner are three parked cars including a Mini and a prestigious sports car. To the right of the Mini is a bicycle leaning on the railings and a weighing machine outside the Cosmetics shop. A Tobacconist’s shop is on the corner advertising London souvenirs for sale. Several pedestrians can be seen including a man leaning on the railings on the corner; two ladies with handbags crossing the road; and a pregnant lady with shoulder bag to their left. 1a Palace Gate can be seen in the centre of the image. It is Grade II* listed, including the area railings; listing number 1066003. It was built c1898 by architect C. J. Harold Cooper for William Alfred Johnstone. It is a narrow, stone-fronted house with a high gable roofline, and can also be seen on image number 85752. Next to it is 3-15 Palace Gate which is a Grade II listed 1860s terrace; listing number 1066004. Palace Gate Mansions are in the distance.
