Description
View of wood-clad slum housing at 7-15 Blue Anchor Lane, Peckham. The lane is cobbled with a drain running down the centre. Two women stand in the doorway of a house with a street lamp on the corner next to Kitchener's Alley (a narrow dog-leg leading west to Peckham Hill Street) with a bollard in front of it. At the end of the street, at 119 Peckham High Street, is The Crown public house which is still standing. Half way down the street is a flatbed truck, a horse and cart and several wooden packing crates stacked against the wall of a house. Blue Anchor Lane was previously called Blue Anchor Yard and used to run north from Peckham High Street to Goldsmith Road (previously known as Back Walk). Part of the lane nearest Peckham High Street still exists and is now called Mission Place. However, shortly after this picture was taken the buildings were all demolished and redeveloped.
