Description
In view is 1 Laurence Pountney Hill, City of London, which was built in 1703 for merchants in the Queen Anne style. The house was built by the master carpenter Thomas Denning and some elegant cornice-work supported by carved brackets is demonstrated here. This small street is named after the church of St Laurence Pountney, which was destroyed in the Great Fire. This area was designated a Conservation Area at the time this photo was taken. Since 2010, the building has been the Chambers for QEB Hollis Whiteman. The multi-story office building behind no longer stands. The pair of houses at 1-2 Laurence Pountney Hill still survives. They were Grade II* listed in 1950; List Entry Number: 1359204.
