116-122 Westbridge Road, Battersea, looking west. A short mid-Victorian terrace of semi-derelict shops and houses. The premises of A. H. King and Sons (electrical contractors) at 118 Westbridge Road are boarded up; Bill Webber (licensed betting office) is at 122 Westbridge Road. A man stands on the pavement outside 116 Westbridge Road. These buildings were later demolished to make way for new houses on the re-routed Sunbury Lane, which formed part of the Althorpe Grove estate. The estate was built in 1984 by the Greater London Council, to designs by architect Nicholas Wood. Cleared ground behind the hoarding on the corner with Althorpe Grove was developed as gardens and parking for the residents of Sunbury Lane. Visible beyond is Valiant House, a block of flats fronting the river which were built in the 1970s.
