116-122 Westbridge Road, Battersea, seen from the corner with Althorpe Grove. A short mid-Victorian terrace of semi-derelict shops and houses. Bill Webber, licensed betting office, is at number 122 and appears to be open, but the premises of A.H. King and Sons (electrical contractors) at number 118 are boarded up. These buildings were later demolished to make way for new houses on the re-routed Sunbury Lane, which formed part of the Althorpe Grove estate. The estate was built in 1984 by the Greater London Council, to designs by architect Nicholas Wood. Sparkford House, one of two point blocks on the Somerset Estate, built in the 1960s by the London County Council, rises in the background. To the right of the picture is the exterior wall of The Stag public house at 96 Westbridge Road, which survived demolition.
