Description
A view of Lombard Road Power Station on the corner of Holman Road and Lombard Road in Battersea. It was designed by C. Stanley Peach, with the electrical engineer Alexander Kennedy, and opened by Battersea Borough Council in 1901. The generating station powered Battersea's lighting, machinery and trams until 1972. The brick building has three storeys, with a circular tower at the street corner. The inclined coal conveyor that ran from Grove Wharf across Lombard Road can be seen on the left. A further generator and switch house were added in 1931. Only the boiler room wall is said to remain. There is also a substation on the corner with Holman Road.
