Savona Street was formerly York Street, and a previous pub on this site was so named to celebrate the marriage of the Duke of York in 1791. The Duchess of York pub as shown here was rebuilt in 1883 for Watney's brewery, with a distinctive barrel pub sign. To the left of the pub is a small terrace of houses on Savona Street, with London County Council block Tidemire House in the far distance (built in the late 1930s and now part of the Savona Estate). Shops and commercial premises on Battersea Park Road can be seen to the right of the pub, most prominently the premises of Cayless Bros Ltd, with a display of ladders on the roof. The Duchess of York is still a public house, though is now (2020) called the Duchess Belle.
