Description
A view of Drapers' Hall Gardens from Austin Friars, City of London. The gardens belong to the Drapers' Hall, glimpses of which can be seen through the trees. The land formerly belonged to Thomas Cromwell, but was purchased by the Drapers' Company from Henry VII after Cromwell's fall. The layout of the garden is largely as it was in 1928 with paving, formal raised rose beds, a fountain and trees including black mulberry trees and a Japanese mulberry. It is enclosed by iron railings, in front of which is a rubbish bin. The building on the left is the back of 23 Austin Friars, which was built in 1888 and designed by Aston Web and Ingress Bell. It was Grade II listed in 1972; listing number 1064741.
