Description
A view of Billingsgate Fish Market from Lower Thames Street, City of London. There has been a market on the site since the eleventh century, though the current building was built in 1872/3. It was designed by Sir Horace Jones and was Grade II listed in 1980; listing number 1358911. The street in front of the market is lined with horse-drawn carts waiting to load up with seafood. Beyond the market are the street fronts of the warehouses at Nicholson's Wharf, Botolph's Wharf, Hammond's Quay, Cox's Quay and Fresh Wharf. Beyond them, the tower of St Magnus The Martyr can be seen.
