Description
Advertisement for the Autumn Season 1886 at Royal Aquarium, mentioning act from illusionists, dancers and musicians and performers such as Ella Zuila, Brothers Griffiths, G. H. Chirgwin. There is an illustration of G. H. Chirgwin. Chirgwin was a British music hall comedian and singer, performed with the stage name ‘the White-Eyed Kaffir’, wearing blackface apart from a white diamond shape over one eye. Blackface was a way through which White performers demeaned and dehumanised African American people. ‘Kaffir’ is deemed a racial slur.
