Description
Illustration from "Cripplegate Ward" by J.J. Baddeley (1921), showing view of Fore Street, City of London, looking east. In the foreground on the left is the entrance gateway to Elephant Yard, the coaching yard which used to belong to the Elephant Inn, demolished in the 1840s. Next door but one, at 110 Fore Street, stood the Anchor and Hope public house. Further along the street on the left can be seen the flag and projection clock belonging to the Fore Street Warehouse (wholesale textiles). In the foreground on the right is 12 Fore Street, on the junction with Cripplegate Buildings, occupied by the London County Westminster and Parr’s Bank.
