Spending time outdoors and good food were the cornerstones of the treatment of patients at a tuberculosis sanatorium. TB hospitals catered for patients at all stages of the illness, whereas they could be denied admission to general hospitals for fear of spreading the disease (Encyclopaedia of London, 2008, Weinreb et al, p713).
