Sydney Road is an estate of late-Victorian houses off Church Road in the Sheen Road conservation area of Richmond-upon-Thames. This view shows the single pair of semi-detached houses at numbers 38 and 39 on the south of the estate, which are two-storeys with half-level basement. They are listed locally as Buildings of Townscape Merit. The frontages are little altered, although the tall hedge has been removed from number 38's boundary and number 39's drive repaved. Both have been extended above the original flanking door extensions and number 38 has also been extended to the rear, filling in most of the driveway shown. The building to the left of the image was a works building now converted into office units in an annex to Printworks House on Dunstable Road. Beyond the modern garages at the end of number 38's drive where a Rover 3500 is shown parked is the rear elevation of the three-storey shop-fronted terrace at 62-70 Sheen Road, which is also listed locally. The garages and the zigzag patterned iron gate have since been removed. A Volkswagen Beetle is parked on number 39's hard-stand and the tail end of a Citroen GS estate is visible in the foreground.
