Dating from 1760 and standing at 1 Thames Street in the Hampton Village conservation area of Richmond-upon-Thames, Riverdale is one of Hampton's most significant historic buildings and was Grade II listed in 1952, listing number 1261997. This view shows its north and west elevations, the brown brickwork concealed by tightly clinging foliage, which has since been removed. The Thames is just visible to the left of view and Benn's Alley, thought to be named after local boat builder William Benn (1829-1900), is shown to the right. A late twentieth-century concrete lamp post towers over a sign pointing to the car park of The Bell inn, which is out of view on the north side of the road. A motion-blurred Ford Popular is driving past.
